I received a gifted copy of ‘Swindled’ by S.E. Shepherd from Hobeck books in return for my honest review. I love reading new authors, and there are a few of the characters in this book which I would love to hear more about. Expected publication date is 07.09.21 and I wish both the publisher and author a happy publication day for tomorrow.
This book is narrated by three different points of view, over the period of 2013-2021. The three points of view are:
Lottie – Brought up in the lovely Mulberry House her life is turned upside down when a stranger is introduced into her home.
Hannah – An ex-policewoman who is trying to start up her own private investigating business.
Vincent – A con man who originated from Italy, leaves nothing but disruption in his path.
The book follows these three characters as the devastating secrets are revealed.
I loved the relationship between Lottie and Hannah and enjoyed seeing their friendship blossom. I would love to hear more about these characters, especially with the private investigating business of Hannah.
I don’t think I have ever hated a character as much as I did Vincent, as he was arrogant and chauvinistic from the start. I was willing him to get his comeuppance the whole way through.
I found the jump between timescales a bit difficult to follow at first, but as I got to know the story and the characters it became a lot easier to read and with the short chapters building up the tension wanted to know how the story would progress.
Overall, a great suspense story that shows how wonderful and life changing a friendship can be.
