I received an E-ARC copy of ‘The Midnight Man’ by Caroline Mitchell through NetGalley from Embla Books. After being involved with the cover reveal and reading an excerpt, I was super excited to start reading. The expected publishing date is 13.10.21.
‘If you open your door to the Midnight Man, hide with a candle wherever you can. Try not to scream as he draws near, because one of you won’t be leaving here…’
This book follows Sarah Noble, a detective who after an extended leave is returning to work on restricted duties.
Five teenagers go to Blackhall Manor on Halloween night to play ‘The Midnight Man’ game. The game is:
Write your names on a piece of paper and prick your finger to leave a drop of blood on the paper.
At exactly midnight knock on the door twenty-two times.
You have invited the midnight man.
When only four girls come home that night, Sarah starts to help with the investigation. She gets drawn into the investigation as things start to become too close to home. Putting her past behind her she must try to solve the case before anyone else goes missing.
‘Will she be ready to meet the Midnight Man’
This book is so creepy, these types of games really freak me out. The idea that someone will be after you is definitely up there on my top horror scares.
Caroline has done an amazing job at keeping a eerie atmosphere throughout, not only with the Midnight Man Game but with the night terror visions of Elliott.
This book also kept me in suspense and guessing who, if anyone may be behind the midnight man. I had so many suspects in my mind throughout, and I was still wrong.
I noticed that on Amazon it says this is the first Slayton thriller, so I am hoping there will be more in this series. Not only would I love to hear more about the characters in this story, but I love the scary feeling that runs through the book.
Overall, an amazing spine-chilling thriller leaving the question, would you be brave enough to meet the Midnight Man?
