Free E-Books: 16.10.21

This is a weekly post that I am going to post a bit about the books I have sourced for free. Quite a few finds again this week 😊

I usually find out about these E-Books through social media, through emails I receive from Hello Books and authors newsletters. I have been a bit nervous about this post as I’m not sure how people feel about getting E-Books for free, but in my eyes I could find a new author I wouldn’t have otherwise thought of and I will be posting reviews for them all.

In this weekly post, I would like to mention the books I have found and downloaded, so that others may have a chance to be introduced to new authors and the books are promoted before I get a around to reading them.

Hello Books – Amazon:

These books were sourced through emails I received by Hello Books and were purchased for free on Amazon. There are a number of genres to choose through this email service, and I pick the ones which sound like the type of books I would like to read. Please note these were free at the time of this posting on 16.10.21 and in the UK region.

I sit here watching the eleven o’clock news with my husband Zachary, who is well on his way into a deep sleep on the couch. There are always photographs of missing kids that come across the screen at this time. It’s not something that he pays attention to, however, I find it the most important part of the day’s reporting. I’m a librarian at Browning-Field high school. I have seen and spoken to almost every child in our 150-person student body as they request and return books for their studies. These students are important so when I see that one of our own is on the news, it scares me. Earlier tonight, I thought I would watch the news, wake Zachary up, and we would go to bed as usual. But now I can’t think of anything other than this missing girl. It hits too close to home and I pray this has a better outcome than most missing person cases. I’m thinking so much about the case I know it will slowly drive me crazy!

The Descendants – Destiny Hawkins

Genre: YA Dystopian

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Fail the tests and become a slave. Display defectiveness and be put to death.

Monroe Academy was built to separate the weak from the strong. Pass the biyearly leveling and be released into society upon graduation. Fail to be promoted and be stripped of rank and forced into servitude. That was a rule that applied to all but Rayah Bardeau. A student of Monroe Academy, branded as a Null because of her absence of Lighter energy.

With her mother standing as a slave in her place, Rayah was given until the age of twenty to make level six, but at nineteen-years-old and with only eight months until her twentieth birthday, she was only a mere level one. The same level she’s been since she was ten. With the stress of her upcoming test, the loss of a friend, and the constant wrongdoings towards her, Rayah could only dream of escaping from Lytonia, and escape she did. Only, when she awakened in her dorm, she couldn’t distinguish if she had only dreamt of meeting Soren, a wild and adventurous defect in the Wild Lands, or if she had somehow used her Lighter Form to get there.

But only the elite ― the most powerful of Lighters ― could tap into their Lighter Forms. Right? And what was the dark energy she used when she and Soren were attacked by Depleters? Was Rayah really as powerless as she thought? Was she a defect? And if she used dark energy, could she call herself a Lighter at all?

Bestselling author Destiny Hawkins brings you the first installment of a gripping dark fantasy where a powerless girl must survive in a society that doesn’t accept the weak…or the defective.

Genre: Romance

Synopsis from Goodreads:

All is fair in love and real estate, right?

She’s the single mum dreaming of owning a house. He’s the hotshot developer about to make her homeless. This time, she’s going to fight back.

Single mum Shasa Daniels is devastated to lose her beloved, cheap rental. Even worse, it’s being sold to Mac McCarthy, a greedy developer about to replace the old villa with luxury condos. Determined to stop him, Shasa gathers her friends to outbid him and build community housing instead.

Mac, the man in thousand-dollar shoes, isn’t as financially stable as he makes out. This deal promises to secure his future until Shasa the eco-warrior stands in his way. It’s time to keep his eyes on the prize. Definitely not the time to get distracted by some bleeding-heart hippie, no matter how sexy and cute.

Looks can be deceiving. As Shasa learns more about (okay, snoops on) Mac, she is torn between her own building plans and the man who makes her heart – and other body parts – melt. In the end, is it better to win in love or in real estate?

Can two people at the opposite ends of the proverbial property ladder find their happily-ever-after? Escape into this cheeky, heartfelt love story set against New Zealand’s overheated real estate market.

I hope you find something that takes your fancy 😊

I only download books that I like the look of the synopsis, and once I have cleared down some of the NetGalley books I am going to be adding 1 or 2 of my E-Books to my TBR each month.
