Synopsis:

Single-mum Roz compares herself to everyone else – her sister, her best friend,
celebrities on social media – and wants what they’ve got – a husband, a ‘proper’
family, some respect. When she meets ‘perfect’ Daniel, her dreams come true – until
he dies suddenly. Devastated and desperate, she rushes into a relationship with
doctor Mark Glaister, a widower she’s met on an online support group. As his
behaviour grows ever more controlling and creepy, Roz tries to finish it. But Mark has
other ideas – and a jaw-dropping secret that spells danger for Roz and her daughter.

My Review:

I received an E-ARC copy of ‘Thief of Joy’ by Stacey Murray from the publisher Hobeck Books in return for my honest review. Thank you to the publisher for my review copy.

This dark crime thriller follows Roz, who is a single mother hoping to find the life everyone else seems to have.

She is spending time getting to know a man named Daniel, but when he suddenly passes away, she turns to an online grief group for support.

Soon she is approached by one of the group’s members and starts to believe she may get her happily ever after, but after a few signs she is unsure all is what it seems.

Will Roz get the life she dreams of? Who is this mysterious new man?

This crime thriller is very dark, and has many secrets revealed throughout. I found it quite a slow storyline, which builds as you go through.

I felt sorry for Roz, as although at times she acted naive she was just looking for what she considered everyone else had in their lives and didn’t want to be lonely anymore.

The secrets revealed don’t help Roz with how she feels about herself, but eventually she starts to gain strength into not letting people take advantage.

Overall, a dark crime thriller where a single mother learns of shocking secrets as she tries to find the man of her dreams.

My Rating:

💜💜💜💜 /5
