I received a free ARC e-book copy of ‘The Crying House’ by B.R. Spangler from @Bookouture through NetGalley in return for my honest review. I must be truthful I hadn’t heard of this author before, but I am always on the look out for new crime/thriller writers to read. I saw a post on twitter from @Bookouture saying this book was on NetGalley to request and I just had to submit a request.
This is the fourth book in the Detective Casey White Series, although there is no reason why this can’t be read as a standalone book. This title is due to be released 3rd August 2021.
Casey is on her morning run and discovers a dead teenage girl in one of the abandoned homes in Outer Banks, North Carolina.
After further investigation another body is found in the same building but this one has been ‘mummified’, with a cryptic note left in their hand.
Two cases are opened, and Casey returns to work fulltime to help in the investigation. More ‘Mummified’ bodies are found, and Casey must solve the mystery behind the case to find the serial killer.
There is a lot of tension throughout as the mystery unfolds and you are on the edge of your seat the whole time.
I really enjoyed this book and I felt part of the team, working through and solving the clues with them. There is so much to the story and many backgrounds of the characters I still want to explore through reading this series. I will have to read the first three in the series and any more in the future.
Overall, an exciting, dark, shocking thriller that leaves you wanting more. A must read for any crime/thriller reader.

That cover is creepy, in a good way. That red roof really stands out. I wonder how cover artists think of these things. Excellent review!
